The worlds of yesterday
The series of moving images is inspired by various natural and geomorphological phenomena in the Opava region. It lies on the boundary of two geological units - one from Neogene (Quaternary) and younger Paleozoic (Primozoic). The location during the last Ice Age was near a glacier stretching to the North Pole. Geological history is marked by the Otická volcano with basalt igneous rocks 20 million years of age, an estimated 17 million years before humans. Iron meteorites from Opava-Kylešovice recall the time 20,000 years ago. Stray boulders remember the end of the last Ice age and the beginning of the current era. The legacy of ancient times can teach us about the interconnectedness of the living and non-living world, they teach us about the transience of our own environment, and knowledge of the past also helps us navigate the current energetical and ecological crisis.
